On my prettiness quest I headed to Piggot's Store today in Woollahra, which is the mecca for pretty in Sydney, and found so much inspiration. I wish I had the budget to buy all the gorgeous pieces of beautifully painted bamboo furniture, the Christopher Spitzmiller lamps in heavenly pastel shades and the stunning sunburst mirrors, but sadly until my husband stops auditing the credit cards I can only glean inspiration and try to emulate the look in other more affordable ways. I did however manage to select a some gorgeous Indian paisley fabric for the kid's bathroom blind with matching bathroom accoutrements which made me feel as though I had at least achieved something today.
Here's a couple of the prints I bought on Etsy, in simple white Ikea frames.
I repainted the mirror which was a much creamier colour, and added the darker shade of aqua as a fine border.
These are the pretty bin and canister from Piggot's in the most gorgeous aqua. Nothing like some pretty accessories to jazz up a room and give you a pep in your step.
These are the two fabrics I bought. The larger paisley for the blind and the smaller floral for the lampshades on the sconces. These pretty fabrics were $36/m and they have them in an assortment of delectable colours and patterns.
My husband added the opaque film to the windows, bought on Ebay, because the bathroom looks straight onto the street and it was a bit like being centre stage at a strip show when showering at night.

Now just to get the blind made and the shades recovered and I think that will be another room I can finally tick off. Phew!

Looking gorgeous as usual. Can't wait to see it all up just like you!!!

ReplyDeleteOf course, it's called Vintage by the Shore. Here's the post I did on the others I bought. http://georgicapond.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Etsy
DeleteAll gorgeous! I've been reflecting in the issue of the dark furniture.........I know my thoughts are scintillating.... Here is a bit of perhaps out of date advice. If you want to lighten up some pieces, do it to many of the ones you already had. If its repro vintage but not antique then start with it. I think you might be happy with the outcome. Now as to paint the antiques....I still have enormous difficulty with this. Maybe the contrast will make them pop.
ReplyDeleteGood luck
Wendy
Wendy I think you're right. I have a few pieces that weren't expensive and aren't valuable that I am thinking of painting. Just need to find a furniture painter that doesn't charge a fortune. Don't happen to know one? Once I establish my "NEW" colour scheme in the living room I'll get onto it.
DeleteMelinda - use me! I would love to give you a quote and am very reasonable in my pricing! email me. I popped on here to actually comment on your post, I love Piggotts. beautiful stuff and the little details in your bathroom are beautiful. well done. glad it's all coming together for you.

Yikes that large paisley is beautiful! Love everything about it and it will look fabulous in your bathroom. Annie x.
ReplyDeleteIt's the closest I can get to Quadrille fabrics!
DeleteFabulous fabrics. I love Piggots and look in the window longingly as I drive past everyday.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if you plan on covering the sconces yourself or if you get it done? If so, who do you use. If you do it yourself, I'd love a tutorial!
I have some white sconces in my bathroom from Magins just dying for a fabric makeover.
Thanks
Helen
Helen, I was planning on doing them myself, only because I don't know anybody who does them and it doesn't seem that hard. I will experiment and let you know the result.
DeleteTh fabrics are just darling! Cheers, Victoria
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, Melinda!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty - love the combination of aqua walls, carrara marble, white subway tile and touches of pretty elegance - the sconces, light, fabrics (how pretty is that paisley? Love it!) and prints. How clever to add that fine line of the deeper aqua. Your attention to detail is what is going to make your home truly feel like "yours".
I hope you don't mind me asking - but were you happy with the quality of the prints from 'Vintage by the Sea'? (I recall you saying you were a tad disappointed by some of your Etsy purchases, but just wondering if these were included).
Also (again, hope you don't mind me asking!) I was wondering how you are finding the polished carrara marble flooring? I have used honed in the past (and would still do the same in the kitchen) but planning on using polished in our ensuite and powder room. Would love to hear what you think?
Congratulations on how everything is looking!

Hi Caroline - the Vintage by the Sea prints were okay, although seem smaller than I recall measuring - and the clarity and detail isn't as clear as it seems in the photos on Etsy. But they have come up alright in the plain frames although as with anything Ikea they are not standard size so I had to trim the prints down. I bought some other vintage prints which were a huge disappointment, and were literally just pages torn out of a book! Re the marble, I have used it before in bathrooms and it's fine, although scratches very easily. But I like the shine. The basketweave is proving a bit of a disappointment though as it is showing a bit of staining in areas and turning a sort of rusty colour where it gets wet a lot (ie around opening of shower screen) and in areas of the shower were soap scum is most present (ie around drain). All a learning curve I guess. How's your house going?
DeleteBeautiful fabrics melinda!! Don't ya just hate husbands that keep an eye on the budget, LOL, they spoil all of the fun!!
ReplyDeleteStunning! The most beautiful shades of blue.
