Get the Look - Bathroom

Even though I have finished my renovation, well for the most part, I am mindful that many of you are in the midst of renovating your own homes and looking for all the things I am thankfully past caring about! I am so often asked about tiles and taps and lights, and share your frustrations in not being able to find the style and quality you want for your homes here as are freely available in the US.

I was heartened today visiting Designex a few weeks back, to see that Everstone are working on a range of simply beautiful marble mosaics - think Waterworks and Ann Sacks rolled into one! They were seeking feedback from designers before they go ahead with the final range, but from what I saw of the samples you will all be utterly thrilled if you are looking for that kind of stunning, classic, grey/white/pale green/blue shades of tiles in a range of wonderful patterns.

To give you an idea they are similar to these tiles from Waterworks. I wasn't able to take photos, but will be sure to show you when I learn more.

So in the meantime, I decided to see what I could find if I was back to doing our bathrooms and had to find everything I needed here on a moderate budget. This is what I came up with. Pretty much the same as I found last year.....

Lights, particularly wall sconces, I'm afraid do pose rather a big challenge as you all know. But here are a few lovely local options....

So, although there isn't the choice or range available here as in the US and for marble tiles you have to pay exorbitant prices for mosaics especially (ie $350/sqm+), if you know what to look for you can get the look here with a bit of creativity, a lot of research and a vivid imagination! Ok so it's not exactly Waterworks, but it's all we've got for now!

    1. Lucky we have gals like you and Viera doing your bit to improve the lighting scene here in Oz. But I wish someone would take on the tile challenge - we are desperate!

  2. Mel, you are such a darling. Thanks a lot for a mention.
Who would say Recollections turns to be such a good supplier and the price is always right.

  3. Thank you so much for all the ideas! We're planning on doing our master bath, and I absolutely love the double vanity with the marble top, not to mention all the stunning tiles. Pinned it! ;-)

  4. hi Mel,
my advice is to just be careful with Recollections taps . I've had a few friends buy them and they have rusted and tarnished. I have Brodware taps in the bathroom and a Gessi in the kitchen and am beyond happy with them. I never think taps are where you should save your money.
lovely collection of goodies in your post though
    cheers Fiona

  5. Hi Melinda,
Oooh.....those marble mosaics from Everstone sound very interesting! Can't wait to see.
What a great "roll call" of locally available products. Thank you for sharing your finds and sources!
i have also found Astra Walker fabulous. They are very similar to Brodware (and were formed by one of the brothers from the company apparently) and the quality, style and service are amazing.
My other name I would like to put forward is "Tiles by Kate" in Sydney for gorgeous mosaics and patterned tiles and wonderful, friendly, helpful service - even here to Adelaide!

Thank you again for a wonderful post - I always get excited when I see you have a new one!

  7. Thanks so much Melinda, I was one of those asking you where to find mosaic tiles in Aus like Ann Sacks has. This is such a great post, I am going to be looking at all those things you mentioned and trying to put it all together in my bathroom eventually. Love your blog, always informative and beautiful!

  8. Wonderful post Melinda! I recall I was one of those people asking you where to find nice mosaics in Australia just like Ann Sacks. We will be doing our bathroom up (hopefully soon) and I love your suggestions. I have never bought recollections taps, but they look just like perrin & rowe or english tapware without the crazy prices. Will be looking at all your suggestions so thankyou!
