Navy and Orange

Firstly, a big thank you to the lovely Judy Elliott from Verandah House for the mention on her gorgeous blue and white post on Friday. It's always a treat when something arrives in my inbox from VH and this is no expception. Judy has amazing taste and a stunning range of products and furnishings that I'm coveting.

One of the gorgeous photos I saw on Judy's blog recently was a fabulous navy and orange setting, which set me on a path in search of inspiration for boy's bedroom colour schemes. I then saw a striking navy and orange post on Style at Home and it got me thinking. Our son, Charlie, 4,  is set on red, yellow and blue for his bedroom and I'm still struggling with the challenge of meeting his colour expectations. So I thought I'd try to find some colourful but stylish options I hope he might consider! Navy and orange seems to work in so many applications. Here's just a few I found.

Pedestal Basins

When making my selections for the bathroom vanities, I was sent down a path I hadn't expected to go down. Given that in Australia we have a woefully limited selection of nice bathroom vanities to choose from, unless you want modern, polyurethane and wall hung, then there's lots of choice. But I wanted something furniture like, that would make it look more like a room than a bathroom. Considering our budget restrictions, I had to get creaivte and think laterally when it came to finding something that would fit not just the space and the aesthetic but also the budget.

When I found the ceramic pedestal basin at Recollections for an absurd $199 I was thrilled, but then when I got home, doubt set in and I wondered if I had been blinded by the price and had in fact bought something ghastly. This was after my husband said it looked like a giant soap dish! So in order to validate my choice and my sense of design, I went in search of some images of pedestal basins to boost my confidence in my decision. Funny that if I had paid $3000 for it I would have had no reservations at all about its suitability or stylishness, but because it was a bargain I suddenly doubted my resolve. But, I have instead discovered that I am at the height of chic and actually got a bargain!

Here's what I bought.....

A bargain for $199, but disregard the dreadful props.

Then I found all this wonderful inspiration which validated my choice and has me very excited about pedestals and how to use them to great effect. If you can forgo the need for bench space, then I think they are a beautiful choice and look effortlessly stylish and timeless.

Here are some other pedestal basins which look equally as stunning and when I couldn't find a timber vanity, I considered putting two pedestals like this as a pair in our ensuite. I especially love those with chrome legs.  My only concern was where to store my drawers full of cosmetics and toiletries, hair dryer, hair straightener, hair brushes, hair products, makeup brushes, perfumes et al.....

So I'm pretty pleased with my choice and inspired to make it look sensational in situ, when the time comes.
