A Christmas Treat - Kitchen Reveal!

This is my penultimate post before Christmas. It's time to check out and take a much needed break with my family. It has been a hugely stressful and challenging year, for many reasons, but thankfully the house is almost finished, and we all still have our health (although the jury's still out on our sanity!). I did manage to cap off the year with a car accident yesterday, and a car service which set me back $3000 (that doesn't include the damage)! So, not feeling very charitable or jolly after that I can tell you!

I'm sure you're all keen to see the big reveal of the house, but honestly is in such a state of chaos that I couldn't bring myself to show it yet. We still have the major move of our stuff up from storage in the new year, and as such don't really have anywhere to unpack our stuff. We are still surrounded by mountains of boxes and furniture. However, in the spirit of Christmas and because you've all shown such interest and patience, I thought I couldn't possibly leave you without a taste of something. So, as this is about the only room almost completely finished (ignore the crappy old fridge) and the room you're probably most interested in - here it is.

What do you think? I'm thrilled. Of course, once we get the nice big stainless steel fridge back in, and some great chairs for the island it will help complete the look, and when I unpack all my glasses etc, but I'm pretty pleased with myself and reckon it's come together really well. I didn't have a chance to do any fancy styling for the photos, as I'm trying to pack to go away but at least you get to see all the details. Hope it was worth the wait.

Here are some details you might like to know:

White cupboards - Dulux Vivid White
Island Bench cupboards - Dulux Spanish Olive
Wall Colour - Dulux Spanish Olive
Sink Mixer - Overstock.com
Benchtop - Carrara Marble (WK Stone)
Stonemason - Grand Marble & Granite
Glass pendant lights - Shades of Light (US)
Door handles and knobs - Mother of Pearl Trading Co.
Cooker - Ilve
Rangehood - Ilve
Steamer - Miele Combi Steamer
Floors - Easylock (Resilient Plank Flooring) in Rough Hewn Karri
Kitchen Joinery - Homestyle Kitchens

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Here's the new light I got for above the dining room table.

And, yes I did manage to avoid unpacking boxes by decorating a very lopsided Christmas tree.  Couldn't find my tree skirt either. We did have the Santa train chugging around for a night, but it was confiscated by a grumpy husband who got fed up with the kids pulling it off the tracks and trashing it. Note the one lonely present from the kids' babysitter.  A lot of wrapping yet to do.

And I have always wanted a staircase to decorate - it's not stained or finished yet, but I had to add a touch of something!

  7. Wow Mel, after such an exhausting and frustrating process, here it all comes together and looks wonderful. I hope the pain will soon fade away! Love the idea of huge deck doors opening straight up off the kitchen - magic. And the kitchen is huge! So lovely to see the old type perforated metal inserts in the panty doors - a fab detail. Have an absolutely gorgeous Christmas with your pretty (very Australian - yay!) tree and I look forward to seeing the rest of the house when all is settled. Virginia xx

  10. Absolutely stunning! I thoroughly enjoyed all the photographs and peeps of the details. I LOVE the sink! Would you mind saying which brand is it? And the marble is so gorgeous too....makes me eager to get out of here and start the next project (Modern Hamptons interpretation planned). So sorry to hear of the dingle and boy what a bloody awful time to need an exy service like that one! I just spent $1 500 and thought that was over-the-top! Hope you and your family have a wonderful, relaxing Christmas!

  11. Wow

    My favourites:
    The ceiling
    The Pendants
    The kick boards
    The bench tops
    Door handles
    Door detailing

I could go on....let just say I love love love it all.

Your $3000 car service is making the loss of my medication (8 pills for $45) look tame. Think baby doll has filed them somewhere. Hopefully not in her stomach. She's swears not though. Even if I find them now it's been 48 hours out of the fridge so they are impotent anyway.

As if the $674 I paid the Doc 3 weeks ago isn't good enough, he's sending me more and will bill me plus transport!!!! I have to see him again in January hopfully it's a little more affordable then.

But as you say at least you have your health. Feel the same way!!!!

I had to laugh at myself standing out the front in my PJ's at 10am today emptying every bag of garbage onto the drive way to try and find them.

You should have seen me at midnight last night, ripping the house appart trying to find them. Gave up after an hour with Mr BH cursing at me for waking him!!!!

    Aint motherhood and marriage grand?

Best of everything to you for the holidays and hope to see you early 2012.

  16. Love love love it! well done, love the island bench, free standing stove and metal inserts (will they rust?, are you on the coast).

Can hugely sypathise with the task of unpacking, been in our new house for 2 weeks and have no built in cupboards, so unpacking slow.

  26. Hello, The kitchen is divinely Hamptons.
How have you found the cost of converting US electrical bissos to Australian? Is it a transformer or do the light inners need to be replaced? I am totally ignorant here.
    Merry Christams

  27. Mel it's gorgeous - just about perfect in every way, hard to pick a fav bit, but for me, probably the ceiling - I love painted timber, and it's hard to pull off in most homes. I wanted it here, couldn't do it! Second to that, the cabinetry doors, wow - love em!!! and the stone tops, and the lights...

  35. Hi Mel, you said if we have any questions please ask, so I'm hoping you are still up for questions. Do you know where you got your mesh for your pantry doors from? I need some for the bookshelves in the family room (long story, but hubby is an idiot), any info would be most useful, and kitchen is amazing, although I think I've already said that several times.
