I am desperate to get Christmas decorating. It's my favourite time of the year and I'm usually well underway with my colour scheme selection and house decorating. I do try to hold off until 1 December to start the tree, but I'm itching to get stuck into it.
I know we all love the familiar symbols and signatures of Christmas like stockings, snowmen, snowflakes, sleighs, and everything associated with cold climates and white winter wonderlands. I'm the first to admit I favour the traditional themes, no matter how silly they look here. And to be honest I never really like the way Australian magazines do their Christmas decorating editions, because they are always so obvious and predictable.
But in Australia when it's usually stinking hot and we are swimming and sweltering on Christmas Day, I guess we have to adapt our themes to be a little more climate appropriate. Fake snow on the windows just doesn't look quite right.
So I went in search of some tasteful and elegant coastal and warm weather Christmas decorating inspiration that hopefully will look right in the Aussie Christmas setting but still be super stylish.

It's still raining and the kids and I are getting cabin fever - time to get our for some fresh air. Raincoats at the ready!

All I can say is sigh!!! Here in central NSW it is wet and cold, so if this weather keeps up we will be having a white christmas. My daughters first christmas we had snow on christmas day. If it keeps raining we may just have to build an ark. Here is to sunny skies. Tracey
ReplyDeletewe are having a beach Christmas this year..hot..hot & afternoon storms (welcome to Queensland!)I love all your Christmas sparkle, it all looks fabulous...Cate
ReplyDeleteAll so gorgeous Melinda! I must admit, my tree is up already - I just couldn't wait any longer! Tracey xx
ReplyDeleteThis is my first Christmas in our newly built home and I can't wait to get stuck into decorating (always after my son's birthday on the 2nd Dec). I really love the silver and beachy blue/aqua I've seen around, but am struggling with is this a 'Christmas-y' enough look? I do love some of the pics you've shown though. Hmm, should I go with tradition or new house-new look option?
ReplyDeleteHi Melinda
ReplyDeletewell if that hasn't put me in the christmas spirit I don't know what will - you certainly have that "knack" girlfriend.
Stunning lady with stunning taste.
Have a wonderful day,

Oh i am loving those beachy Christmas scenes, wow. That simple tree in the bedroom with the little girl, adorable.
ReplyDeleteI was holding off, not getting a real tree this year (not without my husband here) & my girls climbed the top of the cupboard & get our faux tree down, they put it up while i was in the shower on the weekend. They can't wait. Tomorrow while they're at school, i'll start wrapping gifts & piling them under. Love Posie
hello there! i am the new one on your blog! love the insprations :) following you.. love
ReplyDeleteMelinda, so nice to hear your more positive voice again! I loved every picture; so well chosen and I agree so much more suitable to our climate! Still raining here on the Central Coast of NSW and therefore where you are I presume as my visit to Sydney airport was very bleak and wet! I'm planning to put up the tree this weekend but feel a bit flat with my eldest overseas. Must have a look at this Pininterest everyone talks about!

Great selection of beachy and warm weather christmas decorations. I am in the same boat as you... having grown up by the northpole (well, not exactly, but Scandinavia at least, the north pole thing is what my husband calls it, as it's always cold when we visit...) anyhow... now we live in the tropics, so christmas does not include snow and warm drinks! I have spent years trying to figure out how to decorate appropriately, and have setteled on all white and silver. My house sparkles and glistens as newfallen snow, and I love how it looks!!! So what if I have to turn the air condition down a few notches so to get the full effect?? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy decorating!
Melinda - I love an Aussie Christmas - love all the pretty & beachy inspiration here!

There's so much that can be done with a coastal Christmas theme. Thanks for the heads up!!!! I'm currently sticking shells on glass jars, but this humid weather is just making them slide off. Oh well back to the drawing board.
ReplyDeleteHope you are not moving in this weather but it must be getting close.
the starfish decorations are pretty cute, and appropriate for a beach christmas...
